How well do any of us really know our spouses? Does everyone have secrets? The Husband’s Secret is a real page turner and a thought-provoking book. An excellent discussion book!

One of the reviews I read called The Interestings “remarkable” and compared it to The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides. No wonder many of the Friday Morning bookclub members did not enjoy it…..we only gave The Marriage Plot 1.75 Omelets.

Clearly not a Friday Morning Bookclub favorite!

While not our favorite book by Khaled Hosseini, And The Mountains Echoed is a powerful story and well worth the read. We just happen to like The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns better. What do you think?

The Friday Morning Bookclub Gives In The Shadow Of The Banyan 3.5 Omelets

Goodreads readers gave In The Shadow of the Banyan 4.04 stars

The Friday Morning Bookclub was all over the place when it came to rating this month’s book. Some loved it and gave it 5 omelets and others only gave it 1 omelet. The one thing we could all agree on was that what was done to the Cambodian people by the Khmer Rouge was an atrocity.

The story told through the voice of 7-year-old Raami, is actually based on the experiences of the author. Vaddey Ratner, was 5 years old when the Khmer Rouge came into power. Once again, I learned more about history by reading this book than I ever did in school. I highly recommend the audio book which is actually lyrical at times. I was one of those that thoroughly enjoyed the book….4 omelets for me!
