This Month’s Book: Moloka’i By Alan Brennert

Filed under: Moloka'i,What is next?? — susanbright @ 10:33 am

Rachel is a happy and healthy little girl living with her family in Honolulu until she begins to develop sores on her legs which will  not heal. Although her mother dresses her in long skirts and is able to hide the sores for over a year, the inevitable happens and the truth leaks out.  When her family is no longer able to hide her illness, 7 year old  Rachel is seperated from her family and deported to the island of Moloka’i. This book is based on the history of the Kalaupapa settlement, a leper colony located on the island of Moloka’i from 1866-1873. Amazon readers gave this book 4 1/2 stars. We hope you will read along with us!

What is Next?

Filed under: Calling All Book Clubs,Moloka'i,What is next?? — susanbright @ 6:35 pm

It looks like the decision was made at this weeks meeting to read Moloka’i by Alan Brennert for July. It has been  highly recommended by several of our bloggers. The story sounds fascinating and different from anything we have read so far.  Thank you for your recommendations and please keep them coming. We love to hear what other people/book clubs are reading.
