Over the years, The Friday Morning Bookclub, located in Baltimore has read several of Laura Lippman’s books. As do many of Lippman’s books I’d Know You Anywhere takes place in  Maryland. Although not all of the places mentioned are real, many of them are, which makes the book that much more interesting.

Eliza Benedict is content with her life. She has a loving husband and two children, however she also has a secret that has haunted her for over 20 years. At the age of 15, while taking a shortcut through the local park Elizabeth had happened upon a young man with a shovel.  Walter Bowman was burying a teenage girl who he had just murdered. Fearing that Elizabeth may have seen too much, he kidnaps her and holds her hostage for six weeks before he was finally apprehended. Eliza had thought she had put all of this behind her, until she receives a letter from Walter, who was on death row, requesting that she contact him.

This psychological thriller will keep you up late at night reading! According to Lippman I’d Know You Anywhere was  inspired by a true crime. It is a thought-provoking book (what do you think about the death penalty) as well as entertaining. A quick, easy read!
