Our Dilemma!

At Friday’s meeting there was a discussion similar to this short video. Thank you Eddie for turning my script into a video! So we have a decision to make and we need to make it fast so everyone can start reading. The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks is a fascinating story and one I would definitely recommend reading at some point. Heaven’s Keep is a mystery with lots of twists and turns and everyone in the book club received a copy. The big question is… which one do you want to read for February. Please vote today so we can make a decision as soon as possible! Afterall we have a lot of reading to do!

Hard to believe, but it is a tie! Let’s stick with Heaven’s Keep as that was our original choice for February and we will be sure to read The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks later this year. Thanks for voting!

The Problem With E-Books

Although I love my Kindle, there are some things that drive me crazy. I cannot understand why the price of an e-book, which I cannot loan to a friend or put on my shelf for decoration is often higher than the price of a real actual printed book. And wouldn’t it be nice to be able to tell someone what page you are on as opposed to what percent of the book you have read?

Apparently Eddie has some issues with E-books too. Check out his latest video!

It is that time again!  In April we invite our husbands to read along with us. Although it is still month’s away, we like to give the men a head start  and chose the book far in advance.  We are looking for a book that both men and women will like, not too long, after all we can’t ask too much of the men and that will be a good discussion book.  Some of the books we have read in the past are The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Shadow of the Wind, The White Tiger and The Reluctant Fundamentalist. And please…. no vampire cheerleaders! Do you have any suggestions?

Check Out This Video…….. Too Funny!

It is never too early to start thinking about what we should read in April when we invite “the men” to read along with us. We need to give them a head start! I was thinking that The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks (Lisa recommendation) could be an interesting choice as we will have doctors, attorneys, nurses, social workers and of course patients at the meeting. We would be able to get all kinds of point of views. Henrietta Lacks was treated for cervical cancer at Johns Hopkins in 1951. During her treatment, tissue samples were removed from her cervix and became known as HeLa cells. These cells are still being used in medical research today yet her family knew nothing about it and received no compensation. Fair…. or not?

Clearly Ed Steiner has been giving this a lot of thought. Here is a peak into the Steiner home! YOU MUST CHECK OUT HIS YOUTUBE VIDEO BELOW !!!!!!!!
