Book Recommendations From One Of Our Members

Here are two  books that I have read during this stay at home and read period:

Hunting Party
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley is a quick page turner of who done it and why. From the opening chapter, we know that someone has been killed. As old college friends and partners get together for a secluded New Years getaway, each discovers many things they never knew about each other. While old baggage and feelings are uncovered amongst the college friends, you will be guessing until the end what truths will be revealed.
A great escape book for being stuck home at night. When I read the acknowledgments, I learned that this book is being made into a movie.

Giver
The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes is a historical fiction, based on women who brought books to people by horseback in Kentucky from 1935-43. These women, know as packhorse librarians brought books and magazines to people who lived in the remote parts of the Appalachian Mountains. Some people had never read a book and the idea of a free book or magazine to read was unknown. These librarians faced many challenging obstacles. Although, I thought the book started off slow, midway in, I started to understand the struggles of life back then that I had never knew before. This book is also being made into a movie.

What books have you read during your stay at home and read period?

    • Thanks Betty, I love a good mystery. I enjoyed both The Couple Next Door and The Woman in the Window. I recently read The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware and The Family Upstairs. Also page turners! Happy reading!

  3. Thanks for your reviews Ilene. I have not read The Giver of Stars but I did read The Book woman of Troublesome Creek which was also about the Kentucky Packhorse librarians. It would be interesting to hear from someone who read both books.

  4. The Hunting Party was my last read read for 2019 . Frankly , I was not impressed by it to say the least . Now thinking about it , the book has enough material for being made into an decent suspense movie . Perhaps , it was the writing and some structuring that did not sit well with me . . .Looking forward to your take on the book . .
