The American Heiress By Daisy Goodwin

This is a first for The Friday Morning Bookclub! We were happy to be chosen to receive Advance Listening Copies of  The American Heiress. Although we have been reading together for over 10 years and have read 120 some books we had never even thought about all of us listening to the same book. From time to time we have had one or two members chose to go the audio route, often because they were taking a  long road trip, but the majority of us are used to reading, rather than listening to our monthly selections. Thank you Macmillan Audio and Reading Group Choices for giving us this exciting opportunity!

The year is 1890, and Cora Cash, the daughter of a wealthy American is traveling abroad with her mother in search of the perfect husband. Along comes The Duke of Wareham, the most eligible bachelor in England and before she knows it Cora is The new Duchess of Wareham! But as we all know, nothing is perfect!

The American Heiress is being described as “Witty, moving, and brilliantly entertaining, Cora’s story marks the debut of a glorious storyteller who brings a fresh new spirit to the world of Edith Wharton and Henry James.”  The American Heiress will be released on June 21, 2011.
