Trivia 200

Filed under: Trivia — susanbright @ 8:42 pm

The main character in this book was named by his father after a Russian author whose book he was reading when he miraculously survived a terrible train wreck in which many people died. Can you name the book?

Thank you Esther! The main character in The Namesake was named Gogol, after the Russian author Nikolai Gogol. Before Ashoke was married, he was in a terrible train crash and was severely injured. He believed that the only reason he was rescued was that he was reading  a book of Nikolai Gogol’s short stories and the page of the book caught the attention of one of the medics, even in the dark. When he had a son, he named him Gogol!

  1. Was it The Namesake? The main character in that book was named Gogol, I believe. Funny, the trivial things that stick in your mind.
