Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption has been on the New York Times Non Fiction Best Seller List for 14 weeks and is currently number one.  It was named the top book of 2010 by Time Magazine.  So when it came time to chose the book for our  April meeting, the one time of the year that  we invite our spouses or significant others to read along with us it seemed like a logical choice. Here was a book that would definitely appeal to the men. Although written by a woman, this is definitely not a “chick” book!

Unbroken is the story of Louie Zamperini–a juvenile delinquent-turned-Olympic runner-turned-Army hero. He was one of the best runners in America and competed in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. When WWII broke out, Zamperini joined the army and became a bombardier, and ended up in Japan’s most brutal POW camp. Laura Hillenbrand, also the author of Seabiscuit is said to have interviewed the 93 year old Zamperini more than 75 times.

Unbroken has been described by many as “The Best Book they had ever read!” Please join us in reading Unbroken!
