The Girl in the Green Raincoat

Yesterday was a snowy day.  I had run some errands in the middle of the day, and by the time I got home, the sleet was falling.  Then, the big, fluffy flakes.  I had just finished reading “The Invisible Bridge”, and had not yet started a new book.  I was intrigued by a slim paperback I had picked up at the library.  Grabbing the book, I curled up by the fire and opened to the first page…..

Laura Lippman, one of my favorites, had originally written this delightful mystery in serialized chapters for “The New York Times”.  Now, published in book form, “The Girl in the Green Raincoat” is a page turner, nothing but pure enjoyment.  Lippman’s most enduring character, Tess Monaghan, is pregnant, and confined to bedrest.  Every day, from her window she watches a girl in a green raincoat walking her dog.  One day, the dog runs by…….but no girl in the green raincoat.  Tess becomes obsessed with finding out what had happened to the dogs owner.

I couldn’t put this book down until I had read the last page.  And then, I just wanted more.  A perfect read for a snowy night!
