Ann Patchett, the author of Bel Canto will be speaking March 24th at Notre Dame Prep in Baltimore. Although we read this book quite a while ago, it is one of those books I will not easily forget. Bel Canto, Patchett’s first novel, takes place in a country in South America. The Vice President is hosting an elaborate birthday party at his home when suddenly a group of terrorists crash the party in hopes of taking the President hostage. When they realize the President is not there, they take the guests hostage instead, including an American Soprano. This is a fascinating story about the relationships that develop between the hostages and the terrorists.
Patchett is also the author of the book Truth and Beauty, What Now, Taft and Run, and has written for New York Magazine and Harpers Magazine.
