Her Fearful Symmetry

I just finished reading Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffeneger, the author of The Time Traveler’s Wife. Niffeneger’s newest book is a very unique story. She has an amazing imagination! Julia and Valentina are twins living with their parents in Chicago. Not only do the twins dress alike which is most unusual at the age of 20, but they rarely are apart and even sleep in the same bed. When their Aunt Elspeth, their mother’s twin, whom they had never met dies, the twins inherited her London flat as well as all of her belongings. The will stipulated that they had to live in the flat for at least one year before they could sell it and that their parents were never to step foot into the flat. Off to London the twins went, where they met some most unusual characters. There was Robert, their Aunt Elspeth’s lover, who happens to not only work in the cemetery adjacent to the building they lived in, but also was researching and writing a book about the cemetery. Also living in the building was Martin, a charming man who suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and never left his flat.  The story is full of twists and turns and of course a ghost or two! On a scale of 1-5, I give Her Fearful Symmetry 3 1/2 Omelets.
