Next Month’s Book: Little Bee

Filed under: Little Bee — susanbright @ 9:59 am

Everyone is talking about Chris Cleaves’s book Little Bee. In fact, it is already being made into a movie starring Nicole Kidman. Little Bee is a young Nigerian girl who flees Nigeria and after spending two years in a British immigration center under deplorable conditions finally arrives in England. The only people she has to turn to is a British couple who she had briefly met during a violent, life changing encounter on a Nigerian beach years prior. A fascinating read. Please read along with us!

  5. This is an amazing book. Beautifully written. My book club will be reading this book later next year and I will be the facilitator. I would love to hear some of the questions your club generates.

  6. Welcome Laura! I read Little Bee and am really looking forward to discussing it. Check back with us and we will let you know what comes up at our September meeting. Tell us how your book club works. Do you have different people facilitate each month?

    • Our book club is run by one leader, who seeks others to facilitate when they wish. So it’s really on a volunteer basis if someone wants to facilitate. The club has around 30 members but not all show up every month. Most of the ladies shy away from being the facilitator, so on any given year, with 10 books selected, there would probably be only five different facilitators. I gave it a try this month when we read The Innocent Traitor: A Novel of Lady Jane Grey.
