I was excited to hear from one of our bloggers (thank you, Ilene) that Water For Elephants is being made into a movie. The filming began in May and the movie is scheduled to be released in 2011. The movie is based on the novel by Sara Gruen. It is the story of Jacob Jankowski and is told by the 90 something year old Jacob, played by Hal Holbrook. Young Jacob, played by Robert Pattinson, ran away from home after losing his parents in a tragic accident and joined the Benzini Brothers Traveling Circus. Water For Elephants is a fascinating story about Jacobs life with the traveling circus during the Great Depression. Also in the cast is Reese Witterspoon as Marlena. Rosie the elephant is played by Tai, a 42 year old Asian Elephant. Tai measures 8’8″ and weighs a measly 9,000 pounds!
