This Month’s Book:My Enemy’s Cradle By Sara Young

Imagine being a half Jewish girl hiding out in The Lebensborn, a maternity home for women carrying German babies. This frightening program was created by Heinrick Himmler in 1935. Young girls were recruited to become impregnated by “high class, intelligent” German men. The girls were told it was their civic duty and they were promised many benefits.  Both mother and father had to pass the “racial purity” test in order to be accepted into the program. The mothers gave up all rights to their babies and the babies were placed in SS  homes to be raised as perfect Aryans. In the 1o years this “secret” program was in place 10 Lebensborn homes were established in Germany, Norway, Austria and Belgium.

  1. I promised Audrey I would comment on this…I really enjoyed this book and love learning from a book. I never realized this program occurred and watched the video you all had on it. As much I loved the book not sure I will recommend as a book club book to discuss to my gang in AZ. I felt like the author did not go too deep into the characters and did not love the way she wrapped the whole ending quickly! BUT am glad I read it and will tell others to read as well. (Just my opinion) We just finished The 13th Tale which I would never have chosen to read myself but it was SOOO interesting. We are discussing it next week but so far has been receiving rave reviews~ TOTALLY a different read and I actually had to take notes while reading. I could not put it down after the first 90 pages. I have a ton to recommend to Audrey for the summer~!

    Happy Reading!
