  1. What i liked about this book was that it took you into the lives of people you don’t know much about, and that’s the appeal of literature to me. As a family we camp and drive through Appalachia and the Smoky Mountains and see many small rural towns and I always wondered what it would be like to live your life in that kind of environment. This story gave me a sense of understanding. I also saw some parallels between the Holy Roller sensibility and the Orthodox sensibility. I feel sad for people who are “imprisoned” by their culture but it also makes me wonder how I may be “imprisoned” by my culture, even unconsciously.
