Stieg Larsson, the author of the national best seller The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo died of a massive heart attack in 2004 at the age of 50, before the publication of his three novels which make up the Millennium trilogy. Before Larsson began writing he was a political activist and was involved in the founding of the Swedish Expo Foundation, an organization involved in exposing neo-nazi acivities in Sweden. Larsson began writing in 1997, and in 2003, after finishing his first two books and beginning the third book he began looking for a publisher. After being turned down twice by one publisher, a second publisher signed a contract with him for all three books. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was originally titled Men Who Hate Women and in 2006 was awarded the Sweden Glass Key Award for best crime novel of the year. In 2008 the book was awarded the Booker Prize. The other two books in the Millennium trilogy are The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Honets Nest.
