The Birthday Gift

Filed under: Literary Tidbits — Esther @ 10:18 pm

Today is my birthday.  If you were to ask me what I wanted for my birthday, I would say, “Nothing, really.  I have everything I need”.  My husband says that I am difficult to buy for.  I’m not really.  I appreciate anything and everything that anyone would give me.  Last year, the only thing that I wanted for my birthday was for my husband to convert our woodburning fireplace to a gas fireplace.  As I write this, I am sitting in the warmth of the gas powered flame, enjoying every second of it.  This year, I had no such yearning.  I left it to Ed to come up with a gift on his own.  He must have been paying attention to me when I discussed my dilemma of “To Kindle or Not to Kindle” (You can read my earlier post filed under Literary Tidbits).  Tonight, I was handed a giftwrapped box, and eagerly opening it, was excited to find – you guessed it – a Kindle!  It’s certainly pretty.  Sleek and thin and lightweight.  I’ve got it all charged up and registered.  I was then faced with the dilemma of “what book should I download first?”  The selection is nothing short of overwhelming.  I decided to order February’s book club selection – “The Linnett Bird”.  I pressed the button…..woosh…in less than 60 seconds I had the complete book in my hand.  This could be dangerous.  I’ll keep you posted on how things go.  Right now I’m going to go play with my new toy.

  1. Happy Birthday. You have to bring your new toy to our next meeting. Soon maybe we will all be “kindling”.

  2. Look forward to hearing how you like it, Esther. It is a great gift for an avid reader like you… so well done Ed on being in tune.

  3. Happy belated Birthday!
Please keep us updated on the kindle – likes and dislikes. Do you really use it or do you still want to grab a book? So torn as to whether to invest or not….

  4. Happy Birthday Esther! What a great gift idea! I had to laugh over the image of you sitting in front of your fireplace while kindling. Doesn’t the kindling usually go INSIDE the fireplace? Sorry, it just struck me that way. I too am curious about how you will use it. Please keep blogging about it.

  5. Happy Birthday Esther!!!!
Everyone I know that has the Kindle loves it, so I know you will also. We are going to Deep Creek this weekend, and my niece is coming and bringing her Nook– so I plan on using it to see if I like it. Can’t wait to discuss the Kindle versus the Nook with you.
