The White Tiger won the Man Booker Prize for fiction in 2008. The story is narrated by Balram, the son of a rickshaw puller in India who escapes from the Darkness and becomes a chauffeur for “The Stork”, a wealthy landlord. In a series of letters to the Premier of China, Balram justifies murdering his employer.
Our discussion led to a comparison of The White Tiger to The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid. The Reluctant Fundamentalist takes place in Pakistan and is narrated by Changez, a young Pakistani.
