After discussing our book of the month our Friday meetings almost always turns to “Where we had dinner Saturday night” or “What movie we wanted to see”. Since we did not have an August meeting I wanted to share with you my latest dining experience. Last night we went to Samos with Linda (also from the Friday Morning Bookclub) and her husband Bob. If you haven’t even been to Samos you are really missing out. Samos is a small Greek restaurant located at 600 Oldham Street in Greek Town. They have the best Greek salad in town! I absoluely love their lamb chops, and their whole red snapper! For appetizers we had the Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) which is served with tzatziki and wonderful homemade pita bread. Are you hungry yet? We also tried, for the first time their Melitzanosalata, which according to our waitress is pronounced just like it is spelled. It is a delicious spread made of roasted eggplant. It reminded Linda of Jean’s eggplant dip which she made for the last couples meeting. Everything was wonderful and the waitresses are super friendly. I actually felt sorry for our waitress last night. It was sooo busy and she had to be exhausted. Be prepared to wait as they do not take reservations and even on a Wednesday night we had a 45 minute wait. Also bring a nice bottle of wine with you as they do not serve liquor. I guarantee you will love it!! http://www.samosrestaurant.com/about.htm

So now Susan, you are a book reviewer, a movie reviewer, and a restaurant reviewer! Thanks! You really made me want to go to Samos!

Your dinner sounds delicious! We will definitely try Samos one day! Has anyone tried the new restaurant that replaced cafe Isis near Graul’s on Padonia Rd.? I hear it’s popular and you need a reservation but we haven’t tried it yet.

I’ve been there Jean. It’s called Sabor and the food is delicious. I think it is influenced by Puerto Rican cooking. I’ve only been there once, but enjoyed it very much.

We have been enjoying Samos for years. Prices are very reasonable and the food is consistently great. Try the fried calamari. With no reservations, the wait can be very long–so be prepared. The lines are usually out of the door.
